2020 Olympic Golf Recap – Team USA Wins Gold Medals

With the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games now over, Team USA brought home two gold medals in golf thanks to Xander Schauffele (-18) in the Men’s individual Tournament and Nelly Korda (-17) in the Women’s Individual Tournament.

Currently, Korda is the No.1 ranked women’s golfer in the world, while Schauffele comes in at No. 4, respectively.

With wins by Schauffele and Korda, the United States Teams captures its first gold medals in golf since the 1900s. In addition to capturing a gold medal, Korda has notched three LPGA wins this year.

Other notable highlights from golf at the Olympics include:

  • Before the Tokyo Olympics even started – USA’s Bryson DeChambeau and Spain’s John Rham, who currently sits as #1 in the World, got sent home just days before the tournament due to positive COVID tests. Patrick Reed was sent over to represent USA in place of DeChambeau.
  • Representing Team USA was Collin Morikawa, Patrick Reed (T22nd), Xander Schauffele, and Justin Thomas (T22nd).
  • The Silver went to Rory Sabbatini of Slovakia, and C.T. Pan of China Taipei took the Bronze.
  • Mone Inami of Japan, took Silver in the Women’s Individual Tournament, while Lyida Co of Austrailia took the Bronze.
